heres my question. i have a 460 in a 1979 ford f-150. it is not the original engine and i dont know what it came out of. the block number is DIVE-A2B.can some please help i need to know what the engine came out of. thanks
norman
it is really gonna be impossible to find out what the engine originally came out of. about all a person can tell ya from the info that you gave is that the block is a 1971 casting. help me out somebody if im wrong.
Ford, Lincoln and Mercury all used the DIVE block through the '70s. Lincoln 460 used a dished piston and Ford/Merc 429 used one with two eyebrow valve reliefs.
All 385sother than the PI used those heads from '73 through '78. With the DIVE block, as nathan said, there's no telling what the engine was originally in. Unless the pistons were changed at some point in time, you have a '73-78 8.0:1 c/r 429 or 460.
Out of curiosity, why are you trying to determine what vehicle the factory installed that engine in?
