I bought a '93 E-Series box van late last year and am now starting to do some maintenance before I start using it for my business.
Anyway I can't find where the water seperator is.? The Haynes manual says to drain it when the light comes on or when the filter gets replaced. The light on mine comes on only at ignition but thats normal right? I see two hardlines, a flexline, two electrical connections, and a threaded plug that looks like a tire valve stem only metal.
I'm new to diesels so this is all new to me.
Also I can't find where to buy a new air filter for it.
93 E series filters are normally on the drivers side attached to a stand up bracket by the rocker cover.......should be screwed on under that fuel filter header/Schrader valve......
I was getting mine at USA Wally Mart for years.......but they do not sell them up in Canadian Wally worlds. Most NAPA should have them.....

The fuel filter is nothing like the one in the pic. Its almost like an oil filter. It doesn't have the water seperator bowl or any of that stuff toward the bottom of the filter element. All it has is a little turning **** on the bottom and I crank it and fuel came out. Its a CarQuest part. Does it have the wrong filter on it? I bought a fuel filter from AutoZone and it looked like the one in the pic but since I thought it wasn't the right one I returned it a couple days ago.
Tomorrow I'm going to pick up that NAPA air filter.

Most aftermarket fuel filters (Baldwin, Purolater, Wix) have done away with the separate water bowl. This eliminates a potential leak point. The filter has the water separator built into the bottom part of the cannister. The petcock ("****") at the bottom allows you to drain the water separator periodically. Don't worry about appearances - although it looks different, any of the above filters will do a super job.
Ok thanks guys! I got a NAPA air and fuel filter. Thanks for the clear up about the water seperator. I put some diesel kleen with it and she runs great.
OK....heres a question for you smart guys ! LOL ! My water separator on my 84' with a 6.9 gave out on me and started sucking air. I have looked around and I'm not going to pay $300+ for a simple water separator. What I would like to know is the GPH required for the water separator in a stock 6.9 AND is the water separator on later model diesels mounted on the fire wall like the 84' ? I'm thinking that if I hunt down a late model water separator bracket and filter that it should fit the hole and I could still get the filters. The separator on 84's do not have a replaceable filter.
All info will be of great help here guys and gals as there are no FORD dealers within 80 miles so its hard to go looking !
In 87 the water seperator was incorperated into the fuel filter.
So there is no water seperator in the location yours is in.
If the only issue you are having is air intrusion, you can shove a longer bolt into the drain line after you drain the seperator.
You need one with a smooth shoulder above the threads so it will seal good though.
