My truck was runniing like crap it seemed like for awhile also my breakes were going out. i replaced the whole booster unit from a parts truck that i got from my freind for free! a 85 4x4, with a good motor. And as soon as i drove it i had quite the experience when the truck almost took out from under me as i hit second. Vaccum LEak!! Still not fast but better.i noticed a little more smoke on the high way and around town. what about smoke wisping out going about 60. doesnt seem right. about 23,24 rpms. I'm getting a 5 speed and 265 tires with stock f250 xlt rear end. will a bigger exhaust be worth how loud it is. my truck has a banks turbo and 3 innc exhaust. i was thinking about cutting the y pipe and making the sick exhaust with the 4 inch. i also want durabilty and reliablity. the 3in seeems a little restrictive though. so whats the best deal. And i guess i'll cover the whole shebang with a question on lift kits. I'd like to lift the frontjust to level my truck . then maybe a two three inch lift then a body lift maybe 2 inches. i would like to do as much as possible my self and have mildly confident fabricating abilites. my truck is a 86 with weird ifs thanks, cass
If the booster was leaking vacuum, and you have an automatic, the transmission was probably not shifting correctly.
You should have a C 6 in an 86 which uses a vacuum control for the transmission.
2300 RPM at 60 MPH translates into 3.55 gears in the axle with a C 6 transmission.
If you have a Banks turbo, there should be no Y pipe.
The turbo should keep the noise down, they muffle rather well.
I am running a 3" straight pipe to my stacks with an ATS turbo, it is not that loud.
Trash the muffler if there is one, unless you have to have one for inspection.
If you have to have one for inspection, get a see through muffler.
Lift kits are a bit expensive, but there are several on the market.
A 2" body lift is about as far as you can go without modifications to a lot of other components.
