Lightning + Mileage

I've found a '00 Lightning for sale in my area for a descent price..... What kind of mileage city/hwy could i realistically expect? Former owners preferred, but any help will do.

Thanks

Adam

Question

I think the owner's just trying to get rid of it, but he mentioned he thought he got around 12-14 driving around town here in Springfield, MO, and up to 17 on trips to Tulsa. I'm not sure if this is admissable, just b/c he stands to make some money if I buy it. But with 3.55:1 gears, does this sound about right?

If you can drive it like a normal truck,,,not getting on it all the time.
You should have no problem getting that mileage out of it.
But,,if your getting into the boost a lot,,your mileage will go down quick!

I have a Supercrew! It weighs a lot more then a lightning.
Most of my upgrades were put on right from the beginning.

I have a very very heavy foot and have never taken a long enough trip to check my highway miles.

But with over 500 RWHP/short to the store kind of trips.I'm getting very poor mileage. About 5 or 6 MPG....lol But that is running the **** out of it!

Thank you for Correcting me on that. I'll know better than just to skim from now on. On another note, your truck sounds like it'd be pretty fun stoplight to stoplight. Thanks for the help

That's what I'm afraid of, lol. 1,300 for a '00 model with 96000 miles. Seems a lil steep, but she's black and beautiful.(better than my '92 stepside that just got hit by a tornado) Does this seem like a descent price, I'd check e-bay, but prices are always blown out of proportion on there. KBB's not much better.

Could still use some help from current/former owners please!

Thank you

- Adam

Why only former owners? Why not present owners too?

That's about what I get.

12 to 14 depending on how hard I get into it. Usually it's more on the 12 side.

On long trips I can get 17/18. Two years ago when I towed our utility trailer to Yosemite full of our camping stuff, I actually got just under 20 miles per gallon. I'm sure it's because I had to keep my speed down below 60, since California law limits vehicles pulling trailers to 55MPH.

Steep?? $1,300 for a Lightning??? Are you sure you don't mean $13,000??

And 96K miles isn't bad for a '00 vehicle.

Phil, I know there are low mileage Gen 2 L's out there that can be found, but why do you feel 96K is a lot of miles? I have well over 120K on my '99.

My '99 is my daily driver and work truck. I don't think 96K miles is out of the ordinary at all, not for a 7+ year old truck.

The only way to get single digit mileage out of a Lightning is on the race track. I drive mine pretty hard when I drive it and still average around 15. Highway is 16-18 depending on speed.

My 01 has under 16000 miles on it; anything more would be excessive.
