hi guys, I have a 00 excursion and yesterday a beeping alarm started comming from my dash. This happened once before when I let it get low on oil but once I added oil it stopped. yesterday it was about 1 1/2 quarts low but after adding it the beeping continues. any suggestions?
is your air bag staying on? or, turn the truck off, then turn the key back on, see if the air bag light even lights up.. thats most likely the problem.
I have my passenger side airbag unplugged but its been that way for about 3 years.
It has 5 beeps per cycle and does this 5 times before it stops. total lasts for about 1 minute and doesnt do it again until you shut it off and crank it back up.
that beeping is when there is a fault with the airbag system and/or the air bag light does not work. the light should come on momentarily when the ignition is turned on, if it doesn't then thats at least one if not the only reason the light is on
I plead ignorance if the burnt out bulb is causing the problems, but if you have a few hours and are willing to get some DIN radio removal tools ($3 at autozone) the dash is pretty easy to take off, search the forum (or my posts) I replaced some bulbs a while ago and did a writeup on it.
oh, btw, when you pull out the bulbs, it looks like they are attached permanently to these plastic bases that you'd have to buy from ford - not true, pull the old glass part out, buy a replacement generic bulb from an auto-parts store, and stick is back in the holder with some little grease they use for light bulbs.
if any one does doubt that the airbag light and chime are related, it states so in the owners manual, if you do not have a copy, you can view them for free at motorcraftservice.com
Is the chime quite high pitched chime? I just bought a 2005 X and I'm hearing the same chime and was wondering what it was. My 2002 X did not have this chime.
its the same chime as when your door is open but 5 chimes, stops for about 2 seconds then 5 more chimes. it repeats this 5 times total time approx 1 min. then stops. I took the fuse out this morning (on my truck its the #22 fuse)
and it stopped beeping but then my air conditioner fan blower stopped working as well, I put the fuse back in and it started again.
