Since I need an Ex sized vehicle...I guess dreaming of another gear is pointless anyway...since we never got the 3V and the Ex is off the production list...an E350 would be the closest thing for me...but even that you'd have to get a CARGO van and do a custom convert to get a V10 which I 'assume' is a 3V!!!...but you can't get the V10 in a passenger version of the E350!!!...WTF
A crew cab pickemup would not make my family happy on the trips we take...
Sorry to try and stir conversation and dream...it's apparent others like same old same old...I just feel BETTER trans gearing on this perfect motor would make for a BETTER overall TOWING combo...again sorry for trying to stir conversation...
By the way, what is the Allison 6 speed automatic's first gear? I heard it was like 4.09. The TorqShift's first gear is 3.11. Imagine a V10 with a steeper first gear automatic, plus optional 4.30:1 axle gearing. Mine does just fine with the current TorqShift and 4.10:1s, but when you weigh 1,000-1,500 lbs. more than you're competitors' trucks, you're 0-60 times and 1/4 mile times will be a little slower. This stuff they say isn't important, but then again why do manufacturers put trucks together to test them? Performance is still KING. Manufacturers always play up good print. "The most power", "Tows this amount", ""quickest from 0-60", etc., etc. Maybe instead of adding an extra gear in the tranny, we could urge Ford to give us an even more powerful V10, like say, over 400(425 sounds good!!!) rated horsepower, and 500-515 lb.ft. of torque!!!!! And maybe shave off 500-1,000 lbs. Then do another comparison test between manufacturers' trucks.
Joe, u could just keep ur ex and slap a 3v with the TS in it. Or u could go to a f-350 and take it to a place that will add to more doors to the cab for you and a extra row of seats
Hey Joe build or buy a used stretch Limo X. Buy a rolling 450 chassis from Ford and stretch the frame to match the X and put the X on it. That would be sweet. I know a guy with an X with a SUPERCHARGER on it and is craze wild to drive with your foot in it. He lifted and put 44 inch tires under it and 5.13 gears with lockers. Now the cops like seeing his insurance card ! I saw a V10 on another site that Ford is using Hydrogen fuel in it any one see this yet? I would love to see Ford come out with a replacement block that could be bored and stroked to 500 cu.in. and better cams and cylinder heads and intake system. If I am going to have to pay for poor fuel mileage I want BIG power. After building and owning a 4X4 Ford Van with a 460 stroker puting out 750 HP and built C6 trans and Dana 70's with 5.13 gears and lockers and 39 inch Mickeys. its hard not to want that again. If I could put a stroker 460 into my 99SD F350 4x4 or my X I would. I want more POWER!!!!
Ford FINALLY came out of the stone age when they dumped the 4R100 for the 5R110...but they are still in the dark age when it comes to TRANSMISSIONS!!!...why they haven't developed a 6 speed AUTO to mate up to a 4.30 geared V10 is BEYOND me!...when they do...that will be the absolute perfect gas powered tow beast out there...FORD ARE YOU LISTENING...can you count to SIX as in GEARS!!!
Joe.
Actually...I believe the NEW 6spd Auto will come out with the ALL NEW BOSS 6.2L V8 gaser...for 2010 model year. I also believe that will be the end for the V10...at least in the SuperDuty line-up.
The 6spd Auto is coming...but with a different engine.
