Well ive finally came to the realization that im not going to be doing anything with either truck to need a 60 front. I dont wheel or anything so i might as well sell it so i can buy some more goodies for the crew. So whats a good asking price? Its a 79 model high pinion. 4.10 gears and disc brakes. Everything is in great shape. I was gonna ask $1000. Crazy? Also entertaining trades.
well i have paid as little as 500 for a chevy dana 60 front and as much as 1800 for a ford dana 60 79 front. that is the most valuable d60 in the 78 79 fords.. 1000 is average price. i think it should sell fast at that price, the 80s ford d60's usually go for about that and they are allot less rare.. and the 90s ford 60s are worth even less since they are ball joint
Ok cool. to get that much though itll have to sell to someone outside of here(WV). Ive been asking that and people tell me im crazy. I thought bout listing it in the classifieds here. Just wanted to get a ballpark price.
It will depend a lot on your location. That particular axle goes for around $1200 in my area. That's the reason I bought rockwells, I got a pair cheaper than I could a front D60.
lol na. I had a guy the other day offer me $500 for my 60. Hes nuts. Id do trading if anyone had anything but thats just boyut as hard as gettin cash lol
Dave:
Just bought one for $1400, out here, but it had a detroit and 4.56's. Crazy good deal, and I got lucky. I also bought a second one for $1300 and it was clean, but has 4.10's and an open carrier, and no calipers. (did have spicer lockouts) Still a very good deal for these parts. Guys are spending as much as $2000.00 over here for a decent unit, and a builder is still bringing almost $1500.
I am interested in buying your lockouts if they are spicers!
Heak I would give you a decent dollar for the entire axle, but shipping makes it kinda bad.
Maybe though. I could justify a reasonable expense if you needed some parts in return. I have "California clean" sheetmetal. Good cab, bed, actually complete truck. Maybe we should talk?

Matt
$1200 easy. the 78/79 models are a lot harder to find and more desirable due to the extra axle tube b/t the chunk and inner c on the driver side. start it about 1400 and take no less than $1000 at bare minimum!
i would have done rockwells but it takes so much to get them to a useable state (ie wheel brakes, driveshaft flanges, hella lotta lift, etc) that i wanted to stick with the good ole D60. with cromos, longfields, and drive slugs my 60 front is stronger than a stock rockwell. not to mention if i was goin to do rockwells i would get 2 fronts and fab up some rear steer. this full hydro kit was pricey enough for the front, i cant imagine having another system in the rear.

I'll cut you a deal..... I'll trade you a 78 D44HD complete for that there 79 60 you got, and I'll pay shipping for both what do you think? lol
Really, sounds like your in a bad area if they think $1,000 is crazy. That's a good deal for a 79. Like everyone is saying, bump up the price a little. You might want to try ebay to get it advertised outside your area....
You should be able to get more than $1000 outta that thing around here. When I was lookin for one, the only one I found was in a salvage yard for $1400 plus the D44 I would be takin out. Thats why I bought the rockwells.
Ive seen them in local bulletin boards for 1200 for a front to 1600-1800 for the front and rear pair.
Put it in the Clarksburg and Parkersburg bulletin boards for 1400 and stay firm, if your not in a hurry it will sell. People around here are in shock over the price of fuel and things have slowed a little, it will pick back up, esp. when the long holiday weekends get here this summer, Dave.
PS- If a ford guy wont take it some dumb *** will buy it to put under their chevy.

Ummm, no, not even remotely. An accurate statement would have been your axles shafts are stronger than a stock rockwell, but thats about it. If you look at other areas of common breakage; such as knuckles or bent tubes, there really is no comparison. I'm not knocking your choice of building your d60, but just wanted to get your facts straight

hmmmm! Cutts I think your biscuits are burning! HA!
This is another one of those 60FF vs 9" debates except its a rock vs 60 front. Too many factors and variables to ever compare them. I think you see/hear about more 60s breaking just because their are so many more of them.
