Well, I got a reply from the MN DMV. Basicly, in MN, vehicle records are kept for 7 years. No records after that, you'll need to apply for a title/register a vehicle. the BOS may be executed on the form. Pay appropriate fees and taxes. A "statement of facts" must be written and signed by the seller of the vehicle. This statement includes how, when, where the vehicle was acquired, make model, year, and why there is no documentary proof. (this would be the salvage yard owner in my mind, since he was the one who had it originally). The buyer (me) must sign a statement to protect against all future claims of ownership. Need photos of all sides of the vehicle. A surety bond is a possibility, and then it gives me a MN statute to read, which I haven't done yet. So, in a nutshell, it would sure be alot easier if the PO had a title, but not too bad if they don't. Just can't be in a hurry, and expect some snags along the way. One thing I don't expect, is to see the DMV come out and inspect the vehicle, and/or delve deep into the title history of said vehicle. So I cross my fingers, as I go forth. ( My Mercury Meteor needs a title, too, so this is going to be doubley fun)

I have been reading through this thread with interest. I bought a 53 F250 a couple months back on Epay. The seller has no title. The truck is in NE. I plan on trailering it home over Memorial Day. It will be licensed in WI. I am wondering if I should get the seller, to acquire a notarized bill of sale? I will probably have to go through a title service? This is the first vehicle I have bought sans title.

yes, get the bill of sale, notarized if you can.

I used Broadway Title.
I received my real Texas title a couple weeks ago after using their service.
I wouldn't spend much time on the truck til I got the title tho, cause you don't want to be holding an expense bucket of bolts.

You may want to place a "rubbing" of the VIN plate on the BOS....maybe accompany it with a photo of VIN plate. Then hope that the vehicle had not been stolen and sold to you!

I did take a vin plate rubbing on the required form with me to the tax office on title registration in Austin. They didn't look at it.

When my title had an obvious typo on the VIN; I took a rubbing and photo of the VIN plate and they attached both with the paperwork and that's how my typo got corrected......but that's in lil' ole Bastrop; not "the big city" .

Dude all I can say is Ohio is a bitch when it comes to this stuff...find a way to get a title and avoid the inspection process....either do like Rusty did or use Broadway title...
