I know this is an OLD thread... but, I am having the problem with my overhead console starting to dim... and found this thread. So I figured I'd post up a picture I found in regards to TJC's post and question;

I must say....
Another "fix" checked off my list!I pulled down the console, opened up the computer and didn't see really what the thread was mentioning about resoldering... but, I looked closer and noticed the little gems not even (not flat) across the board. I re-soldered all 4 of them that were side by side, and re-assembled. WHA-LA! Done!
While it was apart, I also cleaned the dust from the backside of the smoked plastic. Now, my display is as bright as new. Very cool!
(I knew I should have taken pictures before and after of the display and the process, however it was easy... so quick, I was too impatient! Sorry all!)
