I will NOT say that any of these fellas are wrong. However, I have 4 trucks, see my sig, and I do all the body work on all of them. My welder was less than $300. It is a flux core now, but comes with the setup to put a bottle on it. I put a patch panel from LMC on my wife's Bronc with it with no problem, using the flux core wire. This welder has welded pieces ip to 1/4 in. thick also. I got it from Harbor Freight. I use my welder regularly, on my own stuff. I do not see the sense in spending the money on a brand name welder, if it is only to be used for you (not for a shop). If you are relying on a welder (for instance on a mechanic's truck or in a shop), most definitly get the brand name.

Hope I didn't **** anyone off, just my .02. Oh yeah- the pics of the patch panel repair are in my gallery under wifey's project.
