I know some of you guys have the MKO 4" exhaust. Does the downpipe fit in with out having to move the tranny cross member? How did the kit go together? Pretty easy install?
its not too bad...but its a lot better to have help with the down Pipe...the DP is a tight fit..so look close....after it is all hung lossely..start at the turbo and work back and tighten the clamps....the washers on the hangers may jingle..i put permatex on them and this stoped that...
When my brother and I did the down pipe on my truck, I held it steady from under the truck while he tightened the clamp from under the hood.
The rest is very easy.... the hardest time we had on mine was trying to figure out which section was the tailpipe! Those last two sections around the rear axle look pretty similar, and I'n my case I had to slightly bend a couple of the pipe ends so that they would slide onto each other.
the hangers on the MKO goes into the rubber..then you slide on a washer. and poke a cotter pin though...the washers will jingle when the truck is at idle..i put some permotex (blue form-a-gasket) on the washers after it was installed to stop the jingle...it drove me nuts...
only had one that rattled on mine, happened to have the wire feed out and close to the truck one day, hooked the ground lead to the tail pipe and just a short spot weld on the washer to hanger and no more rattle (ok might make it a little pain to get off but only just a real small tack did the trick)
nice to have a welder around when you need it.. i had 2 or 3 washers when i first started it up..all i had was the permotex..so i went and did all of them while i was at it..little over a year and still no jingle..i also painted my exhaust with black stove paint to make them last longer...so far so good..im going to need to do it again here soon though..but no rust yet...
i didn't have to do it on my truck, but on my brother in laws duramax, his rattled like holy hell. so we bought some rubber grommets, forced them into the washer opening, and bye bye rattle. easy on and off. on my truck, i had the muffler shop cut and weld the last bend so it exited at more of an angle towards the bumper. i had a little trouble with the pipe being closer to my shock than i wandte so the mechanic stacked several washers together, and made a quick bead across all of them. put about 5 washers together, and put them on the side of the hanger you want the pipe to move towards, and it will "pull" the pipe over. no rattle either.
