I know nothing about the banks egt, but what is your EGT at idle?

You will need to add some temp in there just not sure the temp differance. U will want to get a pre turbo gauge though.

I agree, I've read all the info and believe that pre turbo is the way to go.

The reason post-turbo EGT's are a no no is because there is no set rule of thumb to add "x" amount of degrees to your reading. Pre-turbo EGT redline is 1250 degrees. You can go over that in short spurts, such as drag racing or tractor pulling. If you sustain over 1250 degrees while pulling up a long grade for several miles, then you can start to melt the aluminum pistons. Again, this is Pre-turbo EGT's were talking about.

Post-turbo EGT's vary wildly in relation to the pre-turbo readings. As the hot exhaust gas hits the turbo, the turbo itself will absorb some of that heat. The amount of heat taken by the turbo depends on engine load, outside air temps, barometer, vehicle speed, etc. As you can see there is a big list of factors that all play a part.

Now if you were to hook up a pre and a post EGT gauge, you can watch how wildly the temperatures vary. In some cases you might only see a 50 degree difference, and at other times you might see up to a 500 degree difference. So by only adding 300 degrees, you aren't always safe. There is one user who visits here every now and again who blew his first engine because he went only with post-turbo EGT's and used that 300 degree mark difference to try and guess the actual temps. Right now he has a melted Powerstroke piston on his desk as a cupholder.

See, this place is just full of usefull info. I did alot of reading on here before I installed my gauges, pre turbo was stressed a great deal and the reasons make allot of sense to me.

I don't have one yet but everything I've read on here says it will help. It makes sence, not only bigger pipe but bigger down tube and all of it is mandrel bent.

You will see a deduction in temps with a 4" not really sure how much though, plus a free flowing intake will also help some.
