Gas Tank Strap insulators
I have a 54 Ford F-100 and was wondering what everyone used as a insulator on the straps for the stock tank (53-55 tanks)? When I got the truck, some one used old seat belts. My buddy suggested that I cut up a non radial tire, I was thinking maybe strips of bike tube? Any ideas?

The original is a fabric webbing kind of like a seat belt app. 1" wide. I used some of that foam sticky sided material that they use between a pickup truck cap and bed. It comes in 25' rolls. I am not sure how durable this will be in the long run. You can order the original stuff from most of the usual F100 restoration parts suppliers.

I used bike inner tubes on the straps on my '56 and it all went together very nicely. I bought a couple of the larger diameter, fat tire tubes (mountain bike or similar) and then just slid them over the straps. Fit like a glove.
I just realized that it sounds strange that I used them on my '56, but i have a tank and running board brackets from a '55 mounted on my '56, so it kind of applies.
