I have called around to get a computer for my 88' f-250
on my computer it reads E8TF-12A650-BM1B
the one place had E8TF-BMA (no #12A650 - or 1)
E8TF-BMB
the one said he has E8TF - BM1 (no B)
first to: subford I was going to email you (to say off of that other thread) and tell you what I think might have happened with my truck. It ran fine until it got warmed up then started stalling out. I was getting 40 lbs. of pressure on the fuel gauge.so I ran the truck untill it stalled, started it, ran it til it stalled and so on, until it wouldn't start anymore. then looked to see what the hell was happining, was it getting gas? spark? Now I have air in my fuel line,I'm getting maybe 30 lbs. I did get it started one more time and whatched the gauge, when the truck stalled the gauge dropped. I'm not getting gas. checking the wires now. was getting juice up top, and from the bottom, followed the problem to the tan wire with the black line in it, and it went straight down to the computer. So to answer your other post I think you were correct, it's the coputer - thank you.
ok next you said about the base # so which one of this do I need? BMA,BMB,BM1(mine said BM1B) I'm not shopping on line for the part. near ime s a NAPA,FORD dealer, pep boys Berridin's,Macar, auto zone, & advance. So that is not a problems,
Man, you seem to be having the exact same problems I am having on my 88 F-250 !!
My computer (brain) went out and we're having a tough time finding one.
May have to send it in to be rebuilt !!
I'll keep an eye on this thread to see what you do !
Auto parts and Ford dealers use the whole number (E8TF-12A650-BM1B) and a lot of catalogs leave out the base part number (12A650) as every computer from Ford has this center number for the part.
The E says it was first used in the 1980's.
The 8 says it was first used in the 8th year of that decade (1988).
The T says it was used on a truck.
Have no Idea what the F is for.
The 12A650 says it is a computer.
The BM1B is the code for the type of truck, size of engine, air system and transmission and so on. In other words, your wiring harness pin-out and the program that is burned into the chip in the computer.
Both ends are important to get the right one at a store but not at a salvage yard.
At a salvage yard just get one from the same year, type of truck with the same Program code on it, not the part number.
If you do not know about Program codes and for information on Program codes go to this URL: http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=17
Good luck I hope I answered all of your questions.
to subford: you are like an encyclopedia of knowledge. Went to the Ford dealer today, they were no help. Went to NAPA and they had all the numbers on my computer, so I paid them and ordered it, it will be a couple of day's before I get it. I will post my result's in a couple of day's. blloyd - keep your fingers crossed, hopefully it can help you also. the F is for if you can't find it - your F#%< ' ed.
I went to all these places with the computer in my hand so there was no confusion, when I was at NAPA I was on the computer with the man and BANG, there it it was, all my numbers. price $203.26 - 77.75 for the core which I did not give yet - so the total will be said and done $125.51 - I can live with that.
Thats very reasonable !
I just spoke with my NAPA store and they said if my numbers match, they order it at about $125.00 and if not they will have send mine for a rebuild at cost of 225.00 !
At least we are making some head way !!
My truck just up and died and will not start, just crank ....what did yours do ??
Mine did the same , I just kept starting it until it would not start anymore. watching the pressure gauge it droped when it stalled, then I saw there was air in my line- as I explained on the top of the page, then my pressure was down,(I'm not getting gas)then I was checking my wires, hard wired the pumps, they were working, relay was clicking, followed my problem to the tan wire with the green line in it(I stand corrected, early I said the black, but now I'm looking at my HAYNES repair manual) and that wire goes strait down to the computer. Hope this helps you
Bad news at this point, I did the computer today and the problem remains. My friend and I put the computer in started the truck stood there and talked for about an hour, the truck started stalling out,was it getting gas now? I don't know. I was heartbroken at this point, I pulled the key's out and walked in the house. The reason being is that in November I had & still have every intension of selling this truck in March(after plowing). So far I have replaced the distributor & TFI, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, cat converter,O2 sensor,MAP,TPS,computer, ignition switch, both fuel pumps.filter relay, that's all I can think of right now. At this point I'm in for a penny I'm in for a pound. I will some how get this truck running even if I put $2000 in to it, It will still only be worth about $2000. I mean it is still an 88 f-250 ext with 90000 miles on it. If I can't get her going soon, before it get's to cold to work outside on this anymore I'll have to plow with my 05 powerstroke. Any help at this point would help.
the truck runs for about an hour and then bup- bup- bup runs out gas.(runs great for that hour) on thrusday I did notice some air in my gas(presure gauge). Back in the begining I did have some corroded wires I had to fix, and by-passed an in line fuse.
Maybe there's another shorted wire somewhere?
yes, I do believe they do. If I remember correctly, tonight when it stall. I was not in the mood to deal with it, I pulled the key's and walked away. I could go out and start it now and give it an hour an listen for the rail pump when it stalls.
