CLutch Pack replacement

How hard is it to replace the clutch packs for the LS diff? Do you have to go in and reset the backlash and clearances? Or can you just take the whole carrier out and replace them and reinstall the carrier? I'm looking to tackle this myself to save the $$, I have turned wrenches for years on Ford's , but never touched the gears.

Forgot to mention this is semi floater

you shoudnt have to touch the gears,,just the ls center.
