Hey Guys,
Planning on getting a dp chip in the near future and was just wanting some input on what digital gauges would work with the chip or are piller gauges a better bet.
Some guys like the digi stuff, but there is a problem -- the digis don't measure boost properly after you install the OverBoost Annihilator. It pulls the Boost measurement from the PCM, which the OBA hides the real boost from. If the PCM sees more than ~22psi, it sets an Overboost code, once it gets to 25, it defuels the engine.
I like the A-pillar gauges because I can see them out of the corner of my eye without looking right at them to see numbers. I know roughly what the EGT & boost are doing based on where the needle is. I know it sounds stupid, but I find it tough to look at gauges when in the heat of battle (when you need to look at them most!!), so being able to know where they're at without taking my eyes off the road is important to me.
Some guys think they're distracting at night or make it hard to see around. I don't have that problem at all. But you should hear both sides!
Haven't had the digital myself, but I do like the analog for the same reason Joe does. Its easy to know where the needle should be with a quick glance as opposed to a digital readout that doesn't neccesarily show a redline or other relationships. Just installed mine. Goodl uck with the decision!

Thanks Rick. Install wasn't to bad either. Did 2 trucks in one day. Instructions were straight forward, although a little mechanical skills always helped.
Brian, whats a set up like that run ya? If Ya don't mind me askin, with the chip.
2 . . . . as in too much!!
Gauge set was $397 shipped pre-painted with a 5% discount for buying two sets from www.dieselpowerproducts.com (Brian the owner, not me, was extremely friendly and helpful)
DP was about $450 shipped with the new F5 and the OBA. Tunes included stock, no-start, 80 econo, 60 tow, 80 tow. This included DP's 10% Christmas discount.
Altogether, it wasn't cheap, but I love it!!!
Already seeing 15.0 mpg on the lie-o-meter, usually used to be 12.5-13.0 I'll post hand-calculated numbers when I polish of this tank. These are around town numbers. Have yet to test it on a good freeway run.
Yesterday i installed a set of the DiProcol Optix gauges on my 07 work truck and they look AWESOME. I recommend them over the gauges i have now. If it wasnt for the lack of variety in the Optix series (more gauges) then i'd change over to them. When you have a digital gauge and the measurements arent steady it's very hard to read the number. On an analog gauge you just glance at the needle and know where its at.
From the original post it doesn't sound like he is looking for them, but there are digital A-Pillar gauges out there, too! I would imagine they are more expensive.
bandlgeorge - I LOVE the new DP in the gauge pod!!! It looks great!!!!! I wish I would have done mine like that, but I got a steal on my gauge and pod for 121.05 painted grey and everything so I had to stick with that. I think I will take the Dremel to my dash and put it in next the the 4x4 ****. Also, IAFF...that a boy! I am a POC on my local department.
