Question about 6 POS Chip
I'm eagerly awaiting delivery today of a Tony Wildman 5 POS chip (from what I understand it's just a 6 POS chip with one blocked out). In talking yesterday with another trusted vendor (whose name is also dropped all the time on FTE), I was told that I should send the 6 position chip back and request the 4 position instead.
According ot this guy, the 6 position chips are made from a US blank that has a known defect which causes chip failure in 20-25% of Powerstrokes. Apparently the 4 position chip is made from a "Van Aken" blank which doesn't have any known problems.
Tony did initially recommend the 4 pos chip for me, but I opted for one more setting.
Have any of you heard about this issue with the 6 position chips in our trucks?
I've got an email in to Tony asking the same question and haven't heard back yet, so I thought I'd throw it out here.
Thanks!
I can also just about guarantee you that Van Aiken or TS does not have a semiconductor factory. Their chips are manufactured by someone like Siemens, Texas Instruments, Motorola, etc.
I also have a 6 pos TW but I have not installed it yet.
