tough starts after pump problems
I blew my accessory fuel pump 2 weeks ago.(I have a standyne 10-16psi. mounted on the frame rail to help pull fuel through the Racor) Before I realized it was the pump I tried like hell to get her restarted. In short I killed my batteries and ended up with air in the lines. After a long tow home - I bought new pump and installed it - 30 minute job. Easy as pie.
The motor took quite some time to get fuel back to it and turn over, but after about 15 minutes of crank, wait for the starter to cool, crank, wait...,,,, she fired up. Been running great since. But.... when the temps dip below 25 she won't even think of starting without being plugged in.
Prior to adding the secondary pump she was a hard start on cold Maine mornings. After I added the pump it was like a different truck - she didn't care how cold it was. After the WTS light went out she'd fire right away.
Now I'm back to excessively challenging cold weather starts.
My thoughts: did I damage my gp's, injectors.. or did I just kill the gp relay with all the attempts to get it going again. Or is it something else.....
thanks for your advice - in advance....
