Hi , im new to this so you will have to bear with me. I have a 1992 ford f150 4.9 with E40D, I am having issues with my speedometer (which seems common) The speedo hasnt been moving for awhile now but today it is mild out and it started fluttering all over , more so at higher speeds, I replaced the Speed sensor in the rear end and got a different PSOM out of a junk yard whats left to check? wiring and the exciter ring?- Thanks
I did not check fuses, will check when I get home. The abs light is on also and she is shifting very roughly by times. I got the whole cluster and switched it to mine with the same symptoms as before.
If you swapped the entire cluster, is it from a 92 or 93 model truck? There are wiring differences between these and later years that can keep some things, namely warning lamps, from working correctly.
Did you have an RABS fault lamp before the swap? The PSOM gets speed info from the RABS sensor (I think) so you could have an ABS problem and not a speedo problem.
Did you swap whole instrument cluster including the PSOM into your truck? And you have the same symptoms? As long as it is a compatible PSOM, I think you need to look into the rear differential(exciter ring) or into the wiring from the RABS to PCM.
If your speedo sensor is not working properly in the rear end or if it is not connected the ABS light will come on automaticly. It WILL NOT pass SMOG in this condition as well.
Not to jump on this thread too hard but with all this being said does anyone know wear to get the conversion kit if i switched over to a 9" rear end?
