well, it looks like i'm getting my truck back..........guy who "supposedly" bought it called and said it has a broke timing chain. first question, does it have a timing chain like a gasser and second question, is this a fix it at home or am i going to have to put it in the shop?????
Speed, They don't have chains. Crank, cam,IP and oil pump gear.
Why does he think the chain is broke? He may also be confused because somebody gave him bad info. GM 6.2's and 6.5's have chains and he assumed these do too.
don't have a clue. he called me and that's what he said was wrong with it. i'm going to get a rollback and get it back to house and look more into it. he said it was running and quit. then started back running and ran for a while and quit again. he told me starter turned engine over well, but wouldn't crank. don't know if IP is gone or what the deal is. may have more serious questions when i get it home. i'm not as well versed on diesels in truck as diesels in IH tractors, but figure it can't be too much difference. thanks for the help now and what y'all may give later.
oh, yeah, and he said somebody there would buy it, but didn't want to pay anything for it. may be some junk going on that might require the sheriff's office, but don't know yet. sounds like he's thinking about trying to renegotiate the deal or something.
well, if he put gas in it he's dumber than a bag of hammers because it had a full tank of diesel in it when he picked it up and we both talked about it being a diesel about 15 times. i don't think he did, but it's possible. i'm wondering if since the rear tank was off that he hit the tank transfer switch even though he knew it wasn't there and sucked a bunch of air in the system. that's gonna be the first thing i look at before i get back with more questions. it's gonna be a rough day. had to bury family pet last night(110 pound collie) in the dark and it's threatening rain today when i've got to get the ford home. oh, well, at least the roof don't leak. LOL
So is this guy just test driving it or has he bought it.........AS IS
Take the filter header Schrader valve core out and hook a hose and pressure guage to the outlet.........crank engine see what you get for pressure, should have 4-6 psi from a good lift pump.
Volume test same place hook a hose to it crank over the engine 10 seconds you should get 1/3 pint of fuel minimum or 1 pint at 675 rpm in 30 seconds... engine running
Important the fuel shutoff solenoid (FSS) wire on the IP should be disconnected if you do not want a start just cranking. Re connect FSS after test complete.
well, PLC7.3, looks like he's bought it. talked to him yesterday and he says he wants it and his "mechanic" at the ford place told him what's wrong with it. giving him benefit of doubt, although i don't know why. still hoping this deal don't jump up and bite me on the behind. should know better than to be messing around with friends of my daughter. she don't have too good of judgement.
As long as you got the money that's all that really matters. When i worked for U-Haul i did a lot of hot line calls because people "KNEW HOW TO START A DEISEL" or "DIDN"T PUT GAS IN IT".
