Hello to all, I have a couple of questions, hoping someone can help me with. Have a chance to buy a 460 engine out of a 1980's pickup-ambulance is hooked to an automatic trans. Would like to put this in a 1957 ford car. The car presently has a 302 hooked to a toploader 4-speed (4-speed is out of a 1968 torino). Is a truck 460 the same as a car 460?? and would this truck motor be a good candidate for my car. Also, does anyone know if the toploader 4-speed would bolt up to a 460??....if a different bellhousing, clutch-flywheel or an adapter of some sort were needed, is there a vendor that supplies this sort of stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx, Doug

I cannot answer your questions concerning the 460 into 57.
The Toploader will work with the 460. The tranny to bellhousing
bolt holes are all in the same spot, and the tranny's input shaft
length is the same.
1. You will need a block-off plate (called something like that. It goes between the block and your flywheel and it bolts to the bellhousing). Your 460 automatic will have one, but it will have a bunch of holes in it. You can use it as a template to make one out of sheet metal however. Just make sure it fits your bellhousing (#2 below).
2. You'll need a bellhousing. Some companies make blowshields, if
you're interested in that.
3. You'll need a flywheel. A 460 flywheel, or an FE (360, 390 etc.)
flywheel will look. At some point the 460's switched and were balanced
differently, so you'll need to see if your 460 is internally or externally balanced, and then insure that your flywheel is properly
balanced.
4. Clutch disk and pressure plate are standard and easy to find.
5. You'll need to rig/find/beg/borrow/steal a clutch linkage for
this beast.
