Replacing it with a Performer 390 intake? No. Replacing it with the Performer RPM? Yea. it'll give it a little boost in the upper rpms. Ditto for a Blue Thunder copy of the 428PI/427MR intake or the originals.
The streetmaster is a single plane intake and are total junk. Its okay for a light car but its just a pig in a heavy vehicle. You lose any decent torque at low rpm.
the s and t intake are similar for power production, but i'm telling you the edelbrock rpm or 428cj is the way to go. The open plenum intakes will give up some low rpm torque and power. It will depend on gearing and how you plan to drive the truck.
Look on craigslist. I got my Edelbrock Streetmaster for $75!
The streetmaster would make a nice manifols for milti port Fuel injection. With the straight runners the injectors would line up nicely. I have seen it done , I havent done it ( to expencive for my pocket book ) but the motor ran great and had pleanty of low in tq for mudd boging. not my sport of choice. The guy now uses a victor but he started with a streetmaster and he used it for a long time.
I dont know much about it but it looks like a fun project if you had the money to spend.
