oil light

ok forget about my headlights. The oil pressure warning light circuit: 12v coming from the ignition switch through the lamp to the "sender" looking for a ground which it finds when oil pressure is insufficient to keep the switch open, right? turn the key to on, light comes on. start the engine, oil pressure builds, ground is broken, lamp goes out.
the wire to the sender should always read 12v. am i right?

FYI: The oil sending switch is dog meat, and fails on a regular basis.

It's a pressure activated switch, and gets gummed up.

The same one was used for years on cars and trucks.

B6AZ-9278-B .. Oil Sender Switch (Motorcraft SW-667) ~ Use with warning light ONLY.

The circuit is a complete path to ground when the oil pressure is low and it lights the light. You can test the circuit by grounding the wire going to the oil pressure switch - the light should come on.
