Hello all, I'm looking to put a set of Hooker headers on my 95 F-350 4x4 crewcab with a set of Flowmasters or similar to cap it off.Does anyone have this set up? What kind of mileage increase would I likely see and will there be much power gains, without going with a chip? Oppinions please! Thanks in advance.
I have gibson tri-y headers (LOVE EM!!!) kept the cat, and ran a flowmaster series 50 SIDO and now have to run at least 89 octane to keep from pinging. I did notice more low end torque and snappier throttle response, but increased exhaust scavenging from the headers has me running higher octane now.
You'll notice more low-end torque with the headers...they are worth the price. The down-side is you'll have more exhaust maintenance (tightening loose bolts, replacing leaking collector gaskets. Add a K&N filter to fit in the stock housing for around $40. I noticed no improvement in gas mileage but maintain 12 MPG empty and 7.5 MPG towing a 9,000 lb. trailer through the mountains. I still am able to run regular (87 octane) fuel.
