460 Build up

Hi there 1st time out of the hole and need help with info tips. I have a Dove-c head and matching block and would like to find 460 forged steel crank and factory heavy duty rods if available/exist to build 10.5:1 mtr. Can anyone help with identification. Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to FTE. I'll do my best to help with your questions. First, I don't think there is a factory forged crank and an aftermarket crank would be quite expensive. A factory cast crank should work fine. Factrory HD rods have part number D6VE-AA on them and are normally refered to as truck rods. I don't know the correct casting number for the CJ/SCJ rods. I have a cast crank and truck rods in my 10.2-1 466 that I built this summer and so far everything is fine.

Cast cranks in a 2-bolt block will support over 700hp, and above that it's a matter of going to or converting to a 4-bolt block, not a forged crank. As Ford79 said, there are no 460 factory forged cranks. DOOE are the CJ rods, but you'll be just as well off with the HD rods and ARP bolts.

With those heads, a decent set of flat-top pistons will put you very near 10.5:1 I have the same set-up in my Thunderbird, but with some slight milling on the heads to yield a 10.7:1 compression.
