So last night I was driving home from Milano Texas, I live in Austin so its only about 70 miles or so. We pull in the drive way and my dad goes man something smells we get out and the back driver side tire is smoking...The rims were so hot that you could not touch them. I made sure the parking brake was not on which was not the case. So I took it to brake check they took it apart and said I have torn the boot cover or something. He pretty much said this should never happen with a truck with only 25k on it. So I guess im going to ford monday and hoping that they will fix it. Has anyone ever had this problem?
Yes, Had a similar experience last week. I went to pick up my son and was highway driving for about 1/2 hr. After I arrived, when he went to get into my truck I smelled that unmistakable odor of brakes/clutch. Now I dont have a manual trans so I knew it wasnt a clutch, I wasnt in any stop and go traffic nor was I hard on the brakes when I came off the highway. I was dismissing it as maybe it was someone elses car until I walked around my truck and saw the right rear brake rotor glowing bright red like a short track Cup car. Holy cow!!! I then checked to make sure I didnt do something stupid like leave the parking brake on. Nope, it was not even engaged one click. I looked at the left rear and it was fine, I even reached through the rim to see if it was hot and it was not. I nursed it home and brought it in to the dealer the following weekday. The dealer acknowledged that it was the caliper that partially locked up, and would fix it under warranty. Four days later I finally get my truck back, not because it was a difficult job, but because, according to the service manager, calipers are on a national backorder. After I called him on numerous occasions, he got me one by doing an "emergency order". Now I have dealt with this dealership quite awhile, and I even spoke with the diesel tech, and he said the same thing. Is this happening so much that there is an issue or is the supplier just not up to speed with the parts or?? BTW mine is an 06 PSD CC 4WD 250 short bed.
Brake Check is the last place I'd ever go around Austin.. As for boot cover, I'm confused on what they are speaking of.. If your wheel was hot and your tire smoking then you had massive drag on that tires.. Which leads to either a busted spring in the E-Brake or a malfunctioning Caliper. Take it to Ford and let them look at it, I don't trust too many Brake Shops around here.. Had too many problems over the years with em..
Let me know if you need any help.. I'm in Georgetown..
