I just bought a E350 box truck and when I was driving it home the engine would backfire or spudder when it shifted into overdrive and loses power. This problem only occurs when the truck is warm. Could this issue be a fuel pump problem? Or does anyone have any suggestion for me to check. Thank you
First off welcome to FTE.
I take it you are talking about your 1990 Econline so I would check the EGR valve, O2 sensor, ECT sensor and the TPS.
I think a clogged cat would do it at all times and not just when it is warm.
If all of the above items check out OK then look at the TFI module & the PIP sensor.
I would also suggest that you pull the codes and see what they tell you.
Post your codes back and we will try to help you.
To check your codes if you do not know how go to one of these links below:
Thanks guys for the welcome. Yes it is a 1990 econoline 350 box van. It Has the 5.8 engine with the E4OD tranny. I will check the codes and relay the info in a few days. Also will check the other suggestions. The check engine light has never come on so I hope there are some errors on the computer. I really thank you for your suggestions as it gives me a place to start.
