battery meter

HI i have a 97 explorer and when i cranck up the battery meter shows barely above bottom. It has a new battery and its fully charged? Also while driving on the highway it all the sudden quit on me, and i was able to jumpstart it back. Any help on these would be appreciated.

Check the battery voltage(VOM) across the battery while truck running, should read 13.5vdc to 14.2vdc.
If not, you need to troubleshoot alternator circuit.
