V10 issues

Never really looked into getting a V10, But found one I like its a 99 f250. What are the issues with these motors? Positives and negatives?

PROPER spark plug torque is critical. Earlier V10's more so due to too few threads in the head...if the person has recently changed plugs I'd be careful as plugs have been known to be 'spit' out...an insert fixes the issue but knowing about it is key to prevent it...

Exhaust manifold studs can also snap over the many cool/heat cycles...lay your eyes on and touch each of the 40 studs...not a big deal to fix but at least you will know if there is an issue and negotiate it up front...

MPGs are not the best and on a short bed truck the fuel tank is not the biggest...which can make for short trips between fillups...but the V10 makes power...gobbs of it...you must feed her...

Ball joints tend to wear out on these front ends...jack it up and take a look/feel.

Before you jack it up...test out the 4 wheel drive (if so equipped)...the hubs on these can fail to unlock (vacuum issue)...so while you have the truck jacked up...and the hubs are 'supposedly' unlocked...make sure the front wheels free spin...

That's about all I can think of...

BTW...meanv10 is spot on...power is ADDICTIVE on this motor...especially when properly geared with a set of 4.30's or deeper depending on tire diameter with 31" and 4.30's being optimal (IMO)!

Good luck,
joe.

Yeah, "ADDICTIVE" is an understatement!
