There are dealers around that carry Rotella ELC, but there is a second source of the same coolant called "Final Charge". Napa carries it in concentrate. Wal-Mart has it too, but only in 50/50. If it wasn't impossible to get all the water out after a flush, the 50/50 would be fine. Some folks have just put that in knowing they don't have exactly a 50/50 mix -- I'm a bit **** about it, so I wouldn't.

Here is a link to the Rotella site where you can read about the ELC and find a distributor:
http://www.shell.com/home/Framework?siteId=rotella-en&FC2=/rotella-en/html/iwgen/leftnavs/zzz_lhn2_0_0.html&FC3=/rotella-en/html/iwgen/products/dir_products.html

Here is a link to the Final Charge site:
http://www.finalcharge.com/

Now, Final Charge says you can convert without flushing using their converter product, but for our purposes, I think it's better to just flush your system with distilled water several times, and top off with the concentrate. BTW, you'll notice they mention the coolant filters with SCAs -- with this coolant, you replace the filter with a blank. The reason is what I already said -- so silicates to drop out and get sandy, so there's nothing to filter. You could run a bypass filter with ELC but it wouldn't really do anything, providing you did a good flush.

I agree and it works well on my 6.0. It will keep the engine oil cooler from clogging which causes the EGR cooler to overheat.

Coolant Filter Kit...worth it???

Good morning all

TheDaddyCat --- many thanks for catching my error / my bad -- the DieselSite Coolant filter kit is definitely a By-Pass taking a portion of total coolant flow and sending it thru filter.

I took a flashlite out to truck to double verify Part # of Filter for the Dieselsite coolant kit and the filter = Baldwin B5134

Bob R warned me in advance to NOT just select any type filter for coolant system when replacing --- be certain replace with proper filter --- so I purchase a spare filter on original order .

Thanks as always for the valuable info you all share freely with us newbees

Your local FleetPride likely stocks Baldwin as well, if you need a local source.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Looks like I will be adding this to the list of upgrades. Never hurts to add a little something that will make the enjoyment of driving this truck last longer.
