I've got a '99 250 Super Duty of course with the 7.3L Stroke. Well it simply died on me on the way home about a week ago, trying to start it all comes on except for the GP "wait light" and it cranked well, just wouldn't fire.
When I finally got around to checking it out the problem is that the fuse (30A) that runs the "Fuel Heater", "Wastegate Solenoid" and the "Injector Driver Module Relay Coil" keeps popping/burning out as soon as I turn the key on.
So I assume that there is a short somewhere. What I'm wondering is if anyone has had the same thing and the short be in one of these parts?
PS. Yes its true... Assumption is the root of all evil...lol.
welcome to FTE un plug the fuel bowl heater..replace the fuse..the heaters are known for shorting out..you will see the wire coming out of the fuel bowl and leads to the plug..
Welcome to FTE 1badjeep. DO what Ron said. Unplug the fuel bowl heater. That's the most likely cause of your problem. If the truck starts up with it unplugged then that's definitely your problem. Unless it's really cold where you are you can get away just leaving it unplugged.
Absolutely check the fuel bowl heater. Just unplug it as stated. If you find that to be the problem, you can choose to leave it unplugged like Chris said, or if you want to replace it, it is easy.
If you look under the Powerstroke cover, you'll find an aluminum housing (fuel filter housing) with a round plastic cap about 4" in diameter. On the rear side of it is a yellow lever (just to make sure youre in the right area), and also an electrical connector to the bowl. Just unplug it.
yes sir..rep's for the suppoerter logo..this is the back side of the fuel bowl thats under the power stroke cover Kris is telling you about..click on the pic

Hey that Pic is great. I'm going to have a try at it tomorrow afternoon. I sure hope its that simple, that would be awesome. I will have to replace it though, its been really cold here in the Mountains of Colorado where I live. I work in a mine and the Dry (and parking lot) sits at 10,650ft and it snows every day... literally...lol.
Dan, do you have anyway to plug the truck in when its sitting? Just to keep a little heat in the block while your waiting to replace the heater. I'd bet thats the problem. Let us know what you find. Ditto on the rep points. This site saved me the supporter fee + on the first advise I got.
LMAO... Yeah Solid Max is my boy. Our personalities are completely the same . I love it when folks know who he is...lol.

Oh yeah Mike its plugged in for sure, it'll start with out it but then it has an attitude prollum for a while. Rarely on day shift do I get a plug in spot and I've had to start it at about -20deg's, I have to let is sit for about 20 min. I do cycle the GP 3-4 times. I'll try to do'er tomorrow, Saturday for sure and I'll let you guys know. Hey its already been worth the supporter fee for sure. You guys are as friendly as everyone on my Jeep board and I've been there since '01. Its very much appreciated.
Brandon, that is a super awesome, clean write up brother-man. Seriously some sweet action. I assume that is a Dealership part?
