I was installing a new edelbrock intake on the 460 today, When i noticed the cam {Comp. 268h} was sitting to far to the back of the engine. Half of the lifters are riding on the lobes, It is so close that the lifters are almost hitting the opposing lobes. How is this possible? {Thrust washer is turned the right way}
I dont know for sure about 1/2 of the lifter. But all 429/460s are designed so that about 1/3 of the lifter is not on the cam lobe. This is like this no matter who makes the cam. It is fords way of constantly keeping the lifter rotating in the lifter bore causing even wear. Hopefully this is all you are seeing. I think that the thrust plate only goes on one way anyhow. Im pretty sure you are seeing a normal condition here. Andy
I noticed the same thing in my 460 when I went to my engine guy back in May to see the progress of the engine. I was like WTH (what the heck ) and my engine guy told me it was normal.
