Serpantine Belt Change

I have not posted in a very long time on this forum but always appreciate the wealth of information that is here. I have saved many $$ using this forum. This is what got me back into doing my own work. So much for the story. I just finished changing my belt on a 99 5.0 Mountaineer. It has 177,000 miles on it and I think this is the first change. I changed all three of the idler pulleys and the previous noises are gone. I would recommend to anybody doing this think about changing the pulleys as it is not that difficult. A 15MM wrench for the bolts and including the belt I have just over $100 in this.

Thanks for all the info from the other posters.

good idea red. I am a firm believer in preventative maintenance. i change out my alternator when it has 130k miles, not when it fails. i chekc the brake pads every year, not when the squeek. i put plugs in at 100k miles, not after i get a code failure... plan ahead, gut the parts, and pick a warm saturday for a few hours.. have very few emergencies if you follow that plan..

Instead of replacing the whole pulley you can replace just the bearing. Save yourself a couple dollars. Most auto parts stores stock them.
