Pulley and damper?

Hi guys,
New poster. I have a 86 f250 with 460. Motor developed a knock so am now doing a motor swap. Did not notice until now that the pulleys and harmonic damper are different between old and new motors. Both have the external hatchet weight. Old motor has a pretty massive damper with the timing marks on it. The new motor has a small damper with the timing marks on the pulley. Both motors have had balancing done. I am guessing I cannot swap the pulleys and dampers without upsetting the balance. Only other thing I can think of is to try and adjust my assesories (p.s./a.c./alt,no smog pumps) to work with existing pulley/damper. Any ideas? Thanks for your time, Eric.

The one motor is a 1986. What year is the other motor?

I did a little bit of searching around, and come to find out the racing guys using the aftermarket dampers on the big Fords always have to fudge there pulleys and accessories to get everything to line up. So I guess it's not uncommon.

Thanks Dave, So I guess I'm on the right track by adjusting the accessories and not messing with the pulleys or damper.

Swap pulley/harmonic damper?

So I checked into adjusting accessories to work with different pulley/harmonic damper on my "new" 1969 460 block. Does not look Do-able. Does any one have solid data on if it is OK to swap pulley and harmonic damper between motors? The difference between the two motors as far as pulley/dampers appears significant to me (one has timing marks on pulley, other has marks on damper, one projects pulleys much farther forward which is what I need for accessories). Any other options I have not thought of? Thanks for any advise.

I know how to do a little bit on a lathe, and have access to one at work. So if it was me, I would make a spacer for the pulley. If you don't those resources, you might want to get a quote from a machine shop to what they would charge to make a spacer. The pulley should have a lip that center's it in the damper, so as long as you make this lip on the spacer, and make a spot on the spacer for the lip of the pulley to sit in, it should centered up with no wobble.

I just got the solution from my engine builder. I take both dampers with pulleys attached to the shop that did the engine balance and they will balance my old Pulley/damper to match my new engine. Thanks much for your input.
