It's called the IAC(Idle Air Control). There are no diaphragms inside. It's usually a coil acting as a solenoid, or a little motor. If you soaked it in cleaner, you probably have swelled up and ruined the coil and it's windings. To the junkyard you go. I don't know if the parts stores sell new ones or not.
Thank you. Did you see the fuel rail pressure number? 48# is this to high? Didn't know at the time what AIC was or did. Would this account for poor idling and not running without pumping the pedal, back firing? Also pulled volts on TPS they are in my other post air in fuel rail, are these numbers in range? Thank you for your help, you seem to know alot about these older models. I kind of count on you for help, and so far you've been right on!!!!
Since the vacuum line looks good, the pressure may be a little high because it's not running, or running very poorly. Low vacuum will make the pressure go up. The IAC being bad will cause it not to idle correctly. But you should be able to keep it running by holding the gas with your foot. You might want to unplug the IAC, and see if it runs better. If the IAC has shorted out inside, it could be pulling the voltage down from the computer.
Thanks for replying. It's been a while since I pulled codes. At the time it showed TPS, but I metered the TPS and the results are in another post "air in fuel rail". I'll pull codes again to see what they says now.
Volt meter test results for TPS as follows; BLK. & GRN.= .905 closed, 4.5 open: BLK. & ORNG.=5.47 constant: GRN. & ORNG.= 4.10 open, .503 closed. Is this close to specs??
Well, I still have the same old problems that I can't seem to solve. I'm thinking of getting rid of this truck for a VW bug, now I can get them to run!!!Still no idle, will start but won't run on it's own without pumping the poop out of the pedal. Bucks, farts, backfires and dies, nothing smooth at all. Again, if someone has a Bug and wants an 86 5.0 XLT in Oklahoma, contact me or HELP ME!!!!!!!
