are there any cheap performance mod i can do on my 4.9 im only 15 so i dont have alot of know how but i do like to mess with my truck
i was thinking take the air intake off my truck and fabing my own k&n air intake type style with pvc and the k and n cone filter on the end i thought it would look pretty badass to but maybe not
just wanting to know what you think i can do to get a little better milage and more getty up i understand these are no v8 so i dont expect to be thrown back when i give it gas
thanks and sorry for the long post
The cheapest and most necessary thing to do is FIRST read through this Forum...yes, the whole thing and then this Forum http://fordsix.com/forum/viewforum.p...2bc9990f007d66 the whole thing. Then you can decide what you want to accomplish, make a plan and work the plan to that end.
K&N more trouble than worth. Only help if revving very high, which this engine doesn't unless highly and expensively modded. Don't run her over 4000 rpm, no need, no help.
Cheap mod, cut off the cork of a stock muffler, mine was 33% restrictive inside. I paid $25 for my Flotech Raptor and put a short pipe out the side. Much better feels more power response and sounds a whole lot better, but not too loud to draw cops.
Next best mod maybe change the gearing. What do you have 3.08? Then go 3.55. Can get junkyard entire rear axle, probably easier to install than a gearset and maybe cost less too.
not sure of my gears they are LOW tho i do know that
i can take off in 2nd like its 1st and no i dont have a granny low
the muffler deal is not an issue because i dont even have one i just have to cats thats it i might take them off and put a muffler on but i dont want really loud
Nice truck. Should be a tag on the diff with the gear ratio. Or can count driveshaft revolutions for one wheel turn, or is it two turns because of the open differential, can't remember.
I can take off in 2nd with mine but it's a bit rough. You maybe do have a 3.55.
No muffler, I'd think it's already fairly loud.
What about a performance chip and running premium fuel (which is what the chip will make it require in most cases).
I dont think they have a chip for his 1987, as they dont have one for my 1993 F150 I6. I payin close attention to this thread. Right now Im lookin at another straight six to BUILD. MORE POWER!!!
so what about hotter plugs and wires or somthing like along those lines any exhaust help with anything or is my stock 2 cats and then nothing ok? it doesnt sound bad but i dont think its hurting anything is it? thanks again
and im not sure which axel i have because it was changed not the one tht came in my truck the older man i bought it off of put this one under it because of the other one going out or sumthing so how do i find out what it is?
FIrst crawl under and see if a tag. Ratio is on tag slightly disguised, I think maybe it was like 3L55 is limited slip 3.55 and 3 55 is open diff 3.55 (someone correct me as Icould be wrong maybe). Still if was changed out maybe have wrong tag so verify this way:
Can't remember the procedure for spinning a jacked up wheel, but if you have very flat ground so it doesn't go rolling away, you can have someone push the truck for one exact wheel revolution, chalk mark it. While you watch the driveshaft from the side, not under the truck. First mark the driveshaft maybe each quarter. See how many driveshaft revos for one wheel revo and that is approx your ratio.
Much easier: With one wheel jacked I think you have to do two wheel revos as the spyder gear will to around or something like that and half it. That's if open differential (one legger). I would just do the one wheel jacked up as you don't need anyone to help. We know if two wheel revos gets you about 3.5 driveshaft revos, then it has to be a 3.55 or 3.53 (which was that year, but close enough). And if one wheel revo gets you 3 and a half driveshaft turns, then probably limited slip 3.55.
