Valley pan
I am in the process of tearing down my 460 and found a valley pan under the intake. Are these things reusable or do you have to get a new one everytime? I have seen them for sale on ebay a few times and they were used. I was thinking you could use the gaskets on the underside and use black RTV on the upperside to seal the intake and water ports. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

There are two differant styles of valley pan gaskets that I've seen. The ones with the built in intake gaskets and the ones without the intake gaskets built in. You can reuse the second one (no intake gaskets) if it is not bent. i think it is recommended not to use them on aftermarket aluminum intakes.

Valley pan
After removing all of the carbon and oil deposits from the valley pan I found it had the gasket formed to it. I will just buy a new one. Laptop the main reason to use a valley pan is to keep the hot oil from splashing on the bottom of the intake. Hot oil splash = hot intake manifold = hot intake air temps I am proud to say that I am the first person to remove the heads on this engine. I found very nice shinney cylinder walls and the orginal head gaskets it looks like. I just can't wait to install flat top pistons with 6cc valve reliefs. Nothing like a 10.6-1 comp ratio. But thanks for the reply guys.

I hope you dont plan on using the motor for any towing cuz you are going to have tons of part throttle detonation. I am told that high compression is bad in general on a work horse motot

Valley pan
I picked up a non EGR intake manifold off a '68' Lincon with a 429/460 today. It didn't have the valley pan on it when I removed it. Are the valley pans usefull? What purpose do they serve other than keeping oil off the bottom of the intake? I was seriously thinking about taking the whole engine but somebody stabed the oil pan with the fork lift when the moved it. It looks like they might have hit the crank. DANG! It still has the C8VE heads on it. I might go back and pick those up.
