I have 4 of them in my 73 crewcab and their power door lock kits. It is pretty much a bolt in for the front windows and then just run the wiring. If you have a crewcab and want to add power to the rear windows then you will have to modify an existing kit. So far, they work fine.
The advantage I saw to the Electric Life windows is that they bolt in. You get a new regulator with a motor that bolts right in place of the old regulator. They supply a wiring harness & switches to plug in. The hardest part I can see would be cutting holes in my Lariat door panels to mount the switches. I was figuring I could mount the swittches where the window crank used to be.
I had some for about 5 years, no problems and easy install. I was able to install the angle style switchs right over the window crank hole. Since I had black door panel it looks factory if you didn't know better.
what exactly has to be done for the rears on a crew? Did you make the motor from the new kit fit the stock regulator, or did you just modify the new regulator?
1- buy a set for the front and switch them around (right=left/left=right)
2- remove the arm from the factory regulator and straighten out the offset closest to the roller.
3- remove the arm from the electric life regulator and file in the round bin. (garbage)
( to remove the arms you will have to drill the spot welds)
4- weld modified arm onto new power regulator assembly in same position on new gear/pivot as was removed from stock regulator.
5- modify existing inner door skin that regulator bolts to to provide clearance for motor assembly.(cut out section where crank handle went through and weld in bracket to bolt new regulator to.)
6- figure out a way to run the wires from the door to the cab in a clean safe manor. (havn't figured this one out yet)
Sure thing. If you don't still have my e-mail and phone number when you get around to it, send me a PM and I will give them to you again just in case you have any questions. Did you put the fenders on yet?
I looked for your email last night when you posted that but couldn't find it. I'll PM you to get it again - thanks.
Fenders aren't on yet as nothing has really been done to the truck at all because I'm focussing on my ranger (pics in gallery).
Also - I won't be doing the power windows for quite a long while most likely, but I figured this thread was here and going, so I might as well ask now and save the info for when I need it.
Hello
Tough to find a listing for any ford truck on their home page, search " fd41-k " for 73-79 trucks....http://www.electric-life.com/shopsearch.asp....Does anyone have any feedback on the different switch kits? I would like one that covers up the crank hole. Thanks Evan
