The front passenger window on my '03 Expy XLT jammed open this morning. Drove 15 miles to work in 23 degree weather. Drove home in a snow shower. I opened up the door panel, took out the motor and found the assembly that the motor attaches to messed up (one of the two cables had split the case and both where kinked.) The motor is OK. I need to buy 2 new cables, a spool and the housing for them. Based on previous posts, I think that part is called a window regulator and includes the lift arms, nylon guides, cables, and the spool the cables wrap around. TitusWillFord has a very rough drawing of the window assembly and the part they identify as a "window motor right' looks like it has the spool piece.
In order to get the cables, spool and housing for spool, do I buy a motor, a regulator or both.
Got the new regulator installed. Not too bad of a job. I found it interesting that the parts guy at Ford said most regulators go in with pop rivets but this tinker-toy and cable set-up attaches with bolts. Did the engineers know they would not last?
