My son has an 04 Lariat and the drives window fell. Took it apart and the cable system had come loose. Anyone know the trick to winding the cable back on the drive spool?
Cable had come loose from the end and got wound up so released the motor to get some slack and the cable came apart now need to respool. Or do you know if the replacement regulators come all spooled for reinstall?
So what is the trick to get the window motor/regulator out of the door? My wife called me today, said she went to roll the window down and she heard it "make a funny noise" she said, then the window just fell.
I took the door panel off and put the window back up, and found the cable all messed, frayed and everything.
I don't know a "trick". Bought the assembly for my 04 from the dealer for a little over $100. Fairly simple to install. Remove a few bolts to remove and reinstall in reverse order.
My window didn't fall so it may have been easier as it stayed up through replacement...
I tried to respool mine....spend hours trying to get it right. I finally had to give up and buy a new unit. I'd highly recommend not wasting your time trying to fix the original one. I bought the one that went out on my F-150 from Ford. Then a couple weeks later my wifes Explorer window failed. Bought a replacement from Advance Auto. It was the exact same unit....only a bit cheaper. I belive it was made by Alvin Meritor.
Same thing happened to me: While rolling down the passenger window, heard a pop and the window just fell into the door.
Didn't feel like dealing with it so I dropped it off at Ford while I was at work. ~$400.00 later it was fixed.
If you have the time to buy the part and do it at home, I would. I just didn't have the ability to leave my window open for 3 days while i waited for a day to do the work.
