I'm looking for a muffler that will give the tractor on steroids type of a sound, in other words what a 300 sounds like with straight pipes, but I don't want it that loud. The exhaust will exit infront of the right rear tire. Any suggestions?
Brett
well if your running an EFI its doubtful you can get that sound. Alot of people just have a turbo muffler. just look do a search on this forum, this topic has been talked about frequently.
I'll be running a carb, I have done some searchs, but all I have found is people talking about how to get a V8 musclecar sound or just some other mean rumble, or what mufflers not to use if you don't want a ricey sound when you step on it. I'm looking for a muffler or something of the sort that gives you a toned down straight pipe type of a sound.

I had a Jeep Cherokee that I had straight piped, well I sold it to my buddy and it wouldn't pass inspection so I gave him this muffler I bought at O'Rileys called a Flowtech Raptor, and it sounded exactly the same but quieter, and without the burrble and pops.
my 300 efi has the 2 cats then about a 2 inch long pipe it dont sound bad its not loud by anymeans it sounds more like a pissed off cougar hah na but really it sounds reallly tourqy if thats a word
i have an 88 efi. i have 2 1/2 tubing, one stock cat, and a cherry bomb turbo muffler (about $20) and it ends infornt of the rear tire. It had alot quiter and smoother sound to it at first, but 6 months later when it started to rot out a bit, it sounds alot like stright pipes. p.s. stay away from glass packs
I put a flowmaster 40 on my truck, with full 2.25 pipe, no cat. Inside the truck, it's quiet. It sounds pretty decent, in my opinion. It would likely be louder without the full tailpipe, but I wanted it quiet inside.

What's wrong with glasspacks? I have one on each of my dual pipes. They haven't really done anything to enhance the sound, actually. Just looks.

do you have any sound clips? i was thinking about a 40 on my 300 efi just off of the walker and out infront of the RR tire what do you think?
run 2 inch straights right off the manafolds, i mean after the down pipes then 5 ft back and dumped before the rear axle, it sounds like a detroit deisel and it is badass, no ricer rap and at about 2500-3000 rpms its got kinda a v8 rap to it!!! I LOVE IT!!!

No audio/video clips to share, sorry. I suspect it would likely have an annoying drone to it, when running down highway. I opted for a full tailpipe, in order to prevent the possible drone effect inside the cab.
Windows down, I can hear the drone as I pass by things, but it's not a constant annoyance like I suspect it would, with it coming out in front of the RR tire.
I only used the FM 40 because it was given to me, free. I have never cared for the "FM Sound" that many long for.
