If you do it yourself. Figure $300 to have it done. A porter will flow test them and provide you with those numbers. Other than stock flow numbers, until you know what ported heads will flow, choosing a cam is a shot in the datk.

Stock heads flow an average of 135cfm on the exhaust port. That will support a maximum cam lift of .500-.520. Anything higher is wasted, as the exhaust port won't handle it. You'd be over-cammed. I'd recommend around that lift with a dual pattern of 210/218 degrees of duration @.050 to help the exhaust and 110-112 lobe separation angle. Any hydraulic lifter will do the job. You may have to buy a package of cam and lifters as there's a shortage of flat tappet lifters and many suppliers won't sell lifters as a separate item.

That'll work, but I'd use one that favors the exhaust by about 8 degrees of duration @ .050.

I don't understnd what you mean by multiple cams. You only need one camshaft.

Would it be recommended to get a torque converter to support a higher idle? I see that alot of these cams have power ranges above 2000 rpm, and i do not know about this truck but i do not think that it is too high revving.

Hi Erik #l85, Hows it going? About quote "You may have to buy a package of cam and lifters as there's a shortage of flat tappet lifters and many suppliers won't sell lifters as a separate item". With a new cam you should always use new lefters.

If you want to build your engine for horsepower I would say go with Edelbrock's complete Performer RPM package minus the heads. Get your stock heads ported and polished. You will also need an adjustable valvetrain(Edelbrock cam requires it), headers, an Edelbrock Performer 750cfm carb, and the timing chain for a '68-'71 460. If you look at Edelbrocks RPM cam it may seem like you will lose all of your low end but there is still quite a bit. I am using an Edelbrock RPM cam in my truck, which is my daily driver, and I think it is great. I would definately not use this cam if you plan on towing, but for daily driving and off roading it works great, or at least it does for me. You will, however, need to get a higher stall speed torque converter if you have an automatic.

Thanks! How much would an adjustable valve train cost me? I am down to around 700 bucks of budget after:
Edelbrock performer 750 cfm carb
Edelbrock performer rpm intake manifold
landl headers
dual flowmaster 30's

And i still need to port the heads, get a cam, get a timing chain, plus probably that torque converter. And truthfully, i do not really know what an adjustable valvetrain is.
