Trying to decide between polk db570 or blaupunkt vx573.....both around $50 a pair........might even go bp in front and polk in rear ?

i dont know about the db series of polk but i have polk momo 6 1/2's in all of my doors and i absolutely love them. To me, polk has the best sounding speakers that have a warm sound to them with crystal clear highs and surprisingly good bass at the mid range. In my opinion, yo can't go wrong with anything from polk audio.

Some people go with "round" speakers........not "oval" speakers.........so hard to make that decision....

I also have Polk components in the front of my Exploder (and formerly Ranger). Great sound, though you definetly need an amp to power them, and a seperate sub. I'd never run them bone stock off the head unit.

ok.. well to tell you the truth... oval speakers are the way to go for mid bass.... round speaks.. like your 6.5" and your 6...5... and so on and so fourth are better for your high range.... but ..i have the db serious in my 2000 mercury cougar.... and i ran them... on the just the head unit for awhile... and now there hooked up to a profile amp..... and in my experience.. and many people ive talked to ... blaupunkt speakers... are way over rated.... polk makes amazing sound quality speakers....my car right now.. is the 3rd loudest and cleanest car in the state of Mi..... 159Db... on street class

Bigger oval speakers...6x8's and 6x9's are great for mid-bass...but smaller ovals (say 4x6's) suck at bass of any sort.

I'll still take 6.5" components and an appropriately matched sub with dual amps over ovals any day of the week, been on both sides of the fence and I find the grass greener over here.

I put the Polk DB571 in my F250, 4 of them and it sounds GREAT! The MOMO series wouldn't fit up front and Crutchfield recommended to keep the same all the way around. Put in a Alpine 4x40 amp and OMG. It will get louder than you can listen and crystal clear. DB series are great! Get the 6x9 or 5x7 if you can, I think they sound better than round IMO.

I think I'm gonna add a 4 channel amp first before I add the sub.....I stumbled upon a harness by blaupunkt at crutchfield that apperently hooks behind the radio then brings the speaker levels to the amp...this seems convenient...but I wonder if the harness also brings the amplified sound back to the radio area for distribution thru the factory harness ?

Another thing...blaupunkt states that the 97 harness has a different number then the 98...but crutchfields auto configurator list the same harness for the 97 and I have a 98 non premium sound

The easiest way I found to tie into my Explorer's sound system was to find a common point or origin for all the speaker wires (in my case, a plug behind the passenger kick panel), then using trial and error (and an extra speaker) to figure out which direction wires went to the speakers and which went to the radio (ironically, the wires headed towards the floor went to the radio, towards the dash went to the speakers), and then ran all 16 (8 input, 8 output) speaker wires from that one location. This makes it easy to work on them later if need be, and eliminated having to pull the radio for anything. In addition, I found switched 12V back there for amp turn on.

Ranger...did your Expy have a Premium sond system....my truck doesn't...when I had the panels off a few weekends ago to change the factory speakers I studied the harness's that lead to the speakers...no quick connects were visible othrt then the individual speakers themselves......from what I've researched...the Pickup's wireing are quite different from the SUV's......

Phillip, honestly, I've no idea. All my manuals are out in the truck. I had the single-CD with rear controls, four speakers, no sub.

In the SUVs I know, the wiring culminates behind the passenger side kick panel for whatever reason. I'd heard the amp would be there if it was a premium system, so that's why I imagine.

To tie in for speaker inputs and outputs, other than just behind the radio (there's not nearly enough space back there to even attempt it), you just need anywhere where the speaker wires come together. Doesn't even have to be all four. But running all new wires for every speaker would be a real PITA.

Personally, I'd try pulling the passenger kick panel, and just see if the wires are behind there. It's not hard to do in any vehicle I've been around, in my Ranger it was three scrwes and pull. In the Explorer, just pull up the floor trim and pull out the kick panel.

Do you have a wiring diagram for your truck?

Yes I've got a haynes manual...it does show the audio schematic with the proper color wires.......but it doesn't show the route like a Motor manual...I haven't looked in any Ford manuals ...I guess I'll explore getting an instruction sheet for the Blaupunkt adapter harness and go from there...
