I would like to hear opinions from everyone interested on what the best thermastat (degree/temp, brand, etc.)to use in a 1988 460 EFI engine. I am thinking about changing mine, and need to hear what will do the job the best.
Here's some recommended reading. It seems the more we learn the more we realize we don't know. I chucked my then recently purchased Hi-flow in favor of oem for my basically stock 460. There are some other very enlightening articles also.
Don't run anything colder than 180F on a computer controlled 460 EFI. The computer sences engine coolant temp to determine fuel mixture, when the engine is cold it richens the mixture to compensate...the same principle of a choke on a carbed engine. Also, numerous test of shown that an engine wears the most during cold startup. Optimal temp for wear and drivability is between 180-200 F (the hotter you run an engine the more likely you are to detonate and the less HP you make if the intake charge is not cooled). Deen
