I live in Northern California, and will be traveling to the Sierra's and WAY north. In Google'ing (no way that's a word, but- ya know) tire chains, there is massive variety out there. I'm pushing a 2007 F250 SuperCrew, with stock 265/17 tires. Superior performance is more important to me than cost ("body work costs lots more than getting better chains" is my thinking). A type that goes on/off easily would be great. Bring it!
Interesting, since east of Sacramento gets snow. Are you near Placerville, or not that far east?
I think it's a clearance thing, especially with 18 - 20" wheels and tires. As you turn the wheels the inside of the tire can get close to the suspension and possibly the brake lines????
I'm in Loomis just off 80. When I signed it I told the guy this was the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I even had to sign some paperwork that said I agreed to a front license plate bracket.
25 to 30 mph is fast with chains. i havent chained up for 40 years. they plow the roads today. i do recomend that you buy a bunch of heavy duty bunggie cords and tie the chains across the wheel. keep them tight. i have chains on my 55 hp 3wd ford farm tractor and i have them criss-crossed with bunggies , but i dont go very fast, hehe. if its bad enough to chain up my 350, i dont go. easy chains? do you still believe in the tooth fariry too?
I would throw some bailing wire in there too in case you need to secure a loose end if you break a bungee. Best thing is to make sure you have the right size.
No I'm not leasing. I'm in Norcal just east of sacramento. It may be some dealer thing I don't know.
than i dont understand why they would care weather you run chains or not? its like having you sign something saying you wont drive the truck off a cliff...
Good qusetion. I had to sign saying I wouldn't use chains on my 08 F250. I don't understand why, do they want you to use cables?
Wow! Blind signing. I would have made them explain in deatil with colored graphs and charts as to the reason for this. No good answer, no signed paper. And if you did use cables and something happened, how are you going to prove you used the cables and not the chains? They just got out of sometype of warrenty on your truck.
