I have been searching for a truck for a few months now and can't find what I want. What I want is a F-350 crew cab 4x4 turbo diesel SRW manual transmission. I see alot of 4x2 or DRW, but not what I want. Are these truck quit rare or is no one selling them. I live in MN and have been searching close to home but recently have been widening my search, but still can't find what I want. Thanks for the info!
Around here you find old Fords for sale two ways.
If it is for sale at a low price, it has 400,000 miles on it and is a bit rough around the edges.
Lower mileage trucks in better shape are out there to be had, but also expect to pay a hefty price.
This past summer I was looking at a 1997 F350 Stroke 4x4 crew cab dually with a 5 speed.
The only thing wrong with the body was the hole in the bed for a gooseneck hitch that had been removed.
Just a little over 100K on the clock.
Truck sold for 15,000 dollars, but it did take him a long while to get it.
There are tons of Chevy and Dodge trucks for sale much cheaper.
Just no Fords to be had unless you have a fat wallet.
If you want a factory turbo, then you will need to look at a 94 and up. You may find an earlier truck this style without a turbo, but you could add one, or you may luck out and it's already been added.
A guy I know has a truck just like that(except it's non-turbo) and he got it from the forest service.
I bought mine from my brother in law, who found it in texas. He says that they are plentiful there. mine is an 1985 without the turbo. hopefully I will get to add one soon. Go to autotrader.com and they have a good selection as long as you don't mind to travel to pick one up. Hope this helps
I should have specified that I would rather have the non powerstroke. And if I understand this right they only made the turbo for a few months in 94? And if I find a 93 or older with a turbo it has been added? Are there major differences in a turbo or non turbo engines? Non turbo easy to add a turbo on one?
The stock turbo from the factory was available on the 93 and 94 IDI engine.
92 and before, the turbo is aftermarket.
There are also 93 and 94 IDI engines that had turbos added aftermarket.
The only hard part about adding a turbo to a NA engine is the cost.
I cruised Ebay last night...... under "Ford diesel" there were some nice units on there, one was an 84 in cherry condition one owner..... not what you are looking for though.
I have seen alot of nice trucks from these years, but nothing exactly what I am looking for (I guess I'm being a little picky). I did call about one but it was already sold.
I thought I wanted a factory turbo, but I didn't realize it was that easy to put an aftermarket or used turbo on these engines. This will probably help me in my search.
Have you ever driven a crewcab pickup with an 8ft bed? Get ready to change your parking lot habits. We won't have to worry about you being one of those aggravating Walmart parking lot cruisers spending hours looking for a spot close to the store. The spots farthest from the store are the only ones you will be able to get that thing into. I bet it rides like a cadillac though.
Yea I have been around them, my brother in-law has one, and I've driven suburbans. My brother in-law has an 87 with a NA 6.9, and after taking it for a few trips to the mountains pulling snowmobiles, I have decided I would rather have a turbo going up and down the hills out west!

Their not that bad once you get used to them, the only thing is if you like to go trail riding every now and then, they are dang near impossible on the tight ones. Also if you are married make sure the old lady never gets behind the wheel.lol
