I searched for a few hours last night and found one that caught my in Texas, the problem is thats a long way from MN. I can't afford to go down there and look at it if I'm not going to buy it for sure. Oh well, one will pop up one day when I'm not even looking. And the search goes on.
Thanks for all your help, if I ever end up one of these trucks I'm sure I will have a few ?'s for you.
Took me a year before I gave up and decided to rebuild my f150 instead of getting a diesel. By the time my f150 was completely torn down, I found my diesel, so now I have two fords . But the wait was well worth it, my diesel was a turn key operation from day one, no regrets.
My wife tells me to just buy a gasser but I'm still holding out for a diesel.
Nothing wrong with a gasser, but once you get a diesel it gets in your blood, nothing else like it. I have been around big trucks all of my life, and I just love the sound and smell of a diesel. Plus these guys in this forum can teach you anything you need to know about these trucks. They have saved me all kinds of time and money.
need to turn your wife on to a diesel i bought a dodge 12v thinking i would drive it for a while she rode in it and ask can i drive well i still haven't got the keys back almost a year now
She says she won't drive because its going to be too long and won't be able to park anywhere, not to mention I want a manual and she doesn't want to learn how to drive one. I think that with a diesel it would be easier for her to learn.
I'll never burn gasoline. Propane is nice because its more responsive than anything diesel or gas, and the fuel is cheap, even if it does kill some of the peak power. But an old mechanical diesel is a machine of its own, like BIG R said, once you have it, its in you. The bottom end torque will win you over within the first mile.
Heard good things about the older non/PCM controlled cummins diesels, but the first generation dodge trucks are slower than snail turds, lack of an overdrive, and a max RPM of only 2500 really limits your top speed (fords are governed to 3300). When I'm on the freeway I pass those suckers like they're going backards, although with enough modding, anythings possible.
I would never own a head hanger(dodge). I am a ford truck guy through and through so that's what I'm waiting for. I keep thinking about a power stroke but don't like the electronic controlled stuff. I want something I can work on myself.
Have you ever driven a crewcab pickup with an 8ft bed? Get ready to change your parking lot habits. We won't have to worry about you being one of those aggravating Walmart parking lot cruisers spending hours looking for a spot close to the store. The spots farthest from the store are the only ones you will be able to get that thing into. I bet it rides like a cadillac though.
Ever tried to park a Chevy? When I was looking for a truck, the first one I drove was a short bed single cab Chevy. Spongy feeling brakes and it took the whole parking lot just to turn around. The guy selling admitted those were the reasons why he didn't want it any more. The longbed crewcab dually Ford felt like a Mini Cooper by comparison.
I looked for 2 years for the same truck except in a 97' and I only found 4 in this time. If they didn't have 300,000 miles they were sold when I called. The manual is hard to find. I finally gave-up and bought an automatic from Texas with 150,000 for $10,000. They are out there but they are few and far between. Good luck and happy hunting!
I can turn around anywhere I want to, and park in any spot I set my mind to park, except when some Jacka** has parked crooked. My F350 has a D60 Front end. I like it, with the old diesel, its something I would never give it up, I'm planning on putting a 12v cummins in it.
If your still looking and Kansas City Mo isnt to far away I have what you seek
86 F350 SRW 4X4 6.9 ATS TURBO 4 Speed. unk actual miles but approx 35,000 on rebuilt, < 1500mi on clutch, brakes, balljoints, A/C comp, and exhaust. 2 new Batteries in Nov 07. No rust and all panels are solid, no bondo. new paint with a few small bubbles over rear wheels. can send more pics if needed.
Like you I looked long and hard for this truck, but I wanted an auto due to a knee injury. I figured I could just deal with it but my hour + drive to work proved otherwise.
I have what you seek, tho' I'm not giving it up! Just found it in April of 2006, had to go to Portland, OR to get it, pretty much sight unseen, and I'll never look back. . .
