My truck runs fair but not like it should. when I gas it up. my rpms climb but the truck just doesn't seem to pull. When I bought the truck. it seemed to run much better. an when I cut the truck off I could hear the turbo winding down. now when I shut the truck off I don't hear it any more. It's like the turbo stops as soon as the motor stops. were as before it would still spin for a few moments
the truck is chipped with a superchip. I'm running staight pipes no muf no cat.
when I pass 3000 rpms the check engine light comes on then goes off. it's like I have no passing gear at all
it hardly will spin the tires an more. I get 10 miles to gal no matter what. I stay on top of the filters. fuel. an air (k&n) the truch is a 2001 an has 215000 miles on it

I have a 7.3 just like your with 222000 miles on it and its acting the same way Im going to do this today http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/ebps.html and see if this helps
You might try asking this further down in the 99-03 7.3 section. There are a lot of helpful guys down there in this motor specific thread. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum31/
How bad is your power loss? The first thing that jumps out at me is it is always a good idea to let your turbo spool down before shutting the truck off. Have you pulled your IC tubes off and looked at the turbo wheel? Make sure it is free spinning and there is not excessive play. You may have a bad turbo.
I would first check for boost leaks. Any soot on your boots? tighten down all clamps on your boots. Check up-pipes for soot. Check intercooler pipes for leaks or rub throughs. EB sensor and tube, dtippins gave you a great link for that.
Your truck will start to defuel around 22lb of boost without a boost fooler and set your cel light. sooner if you have a boost leak.
Most around hear agree that a K&N aif filter is not the best choice for our turbo's. That said, take off your intake tube and check out your turbo. How doe's it look? the blades should be clean and sharp, no nicks or dings. Gently grab the nut holding the turbo wheel and check for play in the shaft. No in or out play, and very little side to side, 0.02 to 0.05. you will notice oil in the intake tube don't freak that's normal, there is a mod for that but that will come later.
Take a look and report back in the 7.3 forum. Have a great day!!
Turbo could be on its way out, but it could also be a nasty boost leak. Check all the boots between the turbo & intake (don't forget the orange ones under the manifold), and check your up-pipes for soot with a flashlight and by feeling around the connections (after it's cool obviously). If there is soot, there is a leak. It would be good if you had gauges so you could know what your turbo is doing.
This is a guess -- there are other things like a weak fuel pump, HPOP, etc that can cause this, but the above is very easy to rule out, and are common. Oh, and you do have a clean fuel filter, right?? Just making sure!!
Im going to be looking my engine over today for soot then Im going to take my ebp tube off and clean it b/c mine is throwing a ebp code .......with the chip it gets 11 mph with out the chip it gets 18mpg but it is so weak I can't stand to drive it so Im going to hopefuklly fix that today
If your I/C boots are oily, that's from the crankcase vent. It's normal for the PSD to have oily boots if the CCV mod hasn't been done. Soot on the up-pipes is what you're looking for.
