I grew up farming but still get tired of climbing out to go see how many more feet or inches I need to back up to set the tongue straight down on the ball. Does anyone know of a hook up gadget that works? I do not have a receiver hitch, just the bumper.
Thank God,
Someone posted a question about something I really know about.
I work on trailers/RV's for a living and the answer yes. I saw one advertised
and then saw a guy use one. It is a V type mount that mounts on the receiver
behind the ball. It is probably about 4 or 5 inches long on either side and about the same high.
What it does is act a cattle herder. You don't have to check and see if you are lined up completely just as long as you are with in 6 inches to either side and then it pulls it right into the ball.
Just because I work on them doesn't mean I am any better at lining them up than anybody else. I can judge it a little as far as about how far away I am but with this thing I backed up, got it close got out looked about 2 feet away and just backed up slowly from there. Pulled it right in so all I had to do is drop it on the ball.
It also doesn't allow the hitch to go past the ball and right into your tag, belly pan on bumper.
Hope this helps.

That looks like it would work. However, if i mounted it on the bumper the license plate would be hidden. I don't have a receiver hitch. However, the receiver might be cheaper than a back up alarm system.
On second thought, it will work on a bumper. After I searched the Internet I see the "alignment wings" just lift out after hooking up. Thanks everyone.
Very cool... looks slick, does it work well? It looks like if your trailer, as mine so often are, resting on blocks though, you might knock it off before it was over the ball?
I guess if you have the tongue jack all the way up and sitting on a stack of 2x4's it could but your not backing up at 20 MPH or are you.
Anyway, the couple of times I've seen people picking up their trailers and what they have told me it works good. It has to work better than your wife backing you onto the ball.
You could get a pair of those tennis ***** on sticks.

The directions that come with the tools actually suggest that you place the vehicle magnetic wand right on top of the hitch ball - not as shown in the picture in their ad. Then as you align the ***** on the wands as you back up, the ball on the trailer will meet the vehicle wand ball and knock it off when in the exact mounting position...
When we tow into shows we are by our selves in each truck.
I use the same truck from year to year and not a Ford but it is
a full sized pick up. It might take mw a few times to get warmed up
but after the 3rd or 4th hook up I usually only have to get out once
to check where I am at and then to drop the jack, but like I said thats
after 3 or 4 and all different size trailers and we usually average about 8
hooks a piece for 6 guys. We don't have the time to put ***** on. Once
in a while somebody might be around to line you up but not often.
The one I originally talked about and any I see are prople coming in to
drop off or pickup their trailers from service.
