A friend told me that the water pump on this Ranger is on the lower right side of the front cover, but I have my doubts.
I think he's wrong, and the water pump is inside the housing where the fan blade is with the small port, Am I right on this one?
I also need to remove the front cover because I found antifrezze leaking on that side and needs a new front cover gasket.

No. you don't need to remove the oil pan to replace the timing chain or water pump gaskets. Only time you need to drop the pan is for the pan gasket or the front or rear main seal.
